Things I am going to love about China: 10 of 100

The Forbidden City

Such a name invites many questions, the biggest being “Why is it forbidden?”

For hundreds of years the forbidden city was the home to the Emperors of China. For twenty-four generations of rulers, it was forbidden for anyone to leave or enter the city without the emperor’s permission. If anyone ever managed this task it would have been difficult with 26 foot-high walls and 171 foot wide moat.

The forbidden is the largest palace in the world. There are exactly 9,999 rooms as nine is a lucky number in China. There are also nine gates in the forbidden city and the have nine rows of nine giant nails boarding the gates together.

The other big “nine” in the city is the “Nine Dragon Wall”. It depicts dragons playing in the sea and each is a different color.

Now I could go on and on about the wonders of the forbidden city, but the bottom line is that if it’s cool enough for Jaden Smith, it’s cool enough for me.
